The Spring Day of My Life Trailer

Kam Woo Sung (Alone in Love, “The King and the Clown”) and Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung have just confirmed that they will star in MBC’s new melodrama, Spring Day of My Life. Initially it seemed that Son Ye Jin was approached to take on the role, but that is no longer the case.

The drama is about a woman who receives a heart transplant and is given a new lease on life. She ends up meeting the husband of her donor, and a romance blossoms between the two. It sounds a bit like Summer Scent, but seems to have been given a modern update with Kam’s character Kang Dong Ha being a single father to two young children and the director of a livestock company. Sooyoung plays Lee Bom Yi, the terminally ill transplant recipient.

Not unlike her fellow SNSD mate Yoona, Sooyoung is a good 20 years younger than her costar. These age gaps are mind boggling in that I wonder if it’s necessary to cast such a young hot star because she’s an idol and can bring her numerous fans into watching the drama. However, I think Sooyoung is a fair actress, and I’m biased towards liking her much more than Yoona. She held her own quite well in Dating Agency: Cyrano against Lee Jong Hyuk, and was consistently good in all the episodes. I have a bit more faith that Sooyoung can show off some melodramatic chops than I do with Yoona.

The drama is set to air in September on MBC after Fated to Love You.

Mary Stayed Out All Night Review

You’re Beautiful‘s star Jang Geun-seok, a hot commodity these days, will be back with his new next project. It’s an adaptation of Mary Stayed Out All Night, a manhwa that comes from the creator of Full House‘s original manhwa (it’s a working title for the drama, which will air on KBS).

Jang Geun-seok just played a pop group vocalist in last year’s hit drama You’re Beautiful. He’ll again play a musician here, albeit a harder-edged rocker than the idol star of the previous series.

This project will be a co-production between Korea’s KBS Media and Japan’s ACC Korea and will be written by In Eun-ah, who wrote the drama phenom Goong and the cotton-candy-sweet Love & Marriage. A director has yet to be confirmed. There are a few stars in contention for the Mary role, though we haven’t been given any hints thus far.

Jang had planned for his next role to be the movie adaptation of You’re My Pet, but due to production delays on that project, he may well be back in a drama first. Note: This article talks about the casting as a done deal, but others are saying Jang is “a strong possibility.” I’d say take it all with a grain of salt.

Jang’s management was initially reported to say, “He is planning to return with the dramaMary Stayed Out All Night in November. The character and script haven’t been decided in concrete detail yet, so he is preparing slowly, and will try hard to show a different appeal in this role.”

A subsequent article backtracked and said, “He is looking favorably at the role.”

Mary Stayed Out All Night deals with a woman (the titular Mary) who decides she is through with dating, but then strikes up a romance with a “dangerous-looking but charming” death-metal band vocalist. A “lively, upbeat” love triangle develops with a third character, a “perfect type” of man who’s got it all goin’ on in terms of looks, skills, personality, and family background.

They turn to men now hoping to settle down but all the fine guys have been snatched away by young girls who were only concerned about getting married. Now they try to fall into self-hypnotism that they are better off than being trapped in an unhappy marriage but they can’t help feeling being all alone and lonely. “Marry Me” is a story of how women in their thirties come to face with life and discover something new about their lives.

30 year-old spinster reporter Sin-Young was once called a “troublemaker reporter” but she clenched her teeth and kept digging into her work. Finally all of these efforts were rewarded with a prize for getting a scoop. As every dog has his day, she also gets hers and is offered an audition for news anchor. But again, her destiny doesn’t leave her in peace and brings her the news of her long-time boyfriend’s betrayal. He leaves her to marry a girl 12 years younger than Sin-Young.

Soon-Ae, a 30-year-old stewardess, is the breadwinner of her family who supports her ailing father, a utterly hopeless widow aunt and another hopeless cousin. To her, her family comes first before anything else and this scares all the men away. There was one man who didn’t leave her but he was only taking advantage of her company card that gives discounts to luxury goods. One day, she bumps right into her boyfriend with another woman on the very spot and in enormous rage, she beats him up. Very soon she’s introduced as “the Crazy Crew” worldwide and she gets fired.

Seung-Ri is renowned for her numerous love affairs. Hiding this splendid past, she marries a man of a plutocratic family and goes to New York. She proudly returns to Korea to give birth to her baby. Then, she shocks everyone when her baby turns out to be white. She gets kicked out from her husband’s family as well as her own parents. The source of this misfortune goes back to when she tried to get back at her playboy husband by also having an affair. Though it was only a one night stand with an American guy, she now can’t turn back the time. What’s more, she hears that her baby died as soon as he was born. The Italian restaurant-themed drama will be about marriage stories for women who are in their 30s and also about success stories on women who wants to be chefs. Alex’s role will be a customer who has a specialty in foods (somewhat like food critics) called Kim San.

Lee’s character (sigh) harbors a painful past that makes him unwilling to recognize the talents of women chefs (what a creative excuse for being a sexist?). This leads him to clash with Gong repeatedly in the kitchen as they get off to a rocky start. Creating Destiny is based on a mixing of two novels by romance fiction writer Hyun Go-woon. This upbeat romance series reunites its director Jang Geun-soo (Chunja’s Happy Events) with writer Hyun, as the two collaborated on the popular 2003 drama 1% of Anything.

PD Jang told his production and actors to think of the drama as in between a romance manhwa and novel: “It may be a little unrealistic, but we will tell a fun story.”

Eugene plays a woman who moved to Australia in her childhood and is now about to become a lawyer, which will make good use of her fluent English skills. With the support of the head of the Police Authority, Guangzhou’s top villain Ho Kei-Kin (Dayo Wong) has been riding roughshod over everyone around him. He is so manipulative that he has explored every possible means in his fight for a house with the buck-toothed owner Ling Yuk Tsui (Cecilia Yip).

However, he was originally a kind-hearted person. His change of heart was due to him being mistreated by his father back when he was a child. His father once nailed him inside the coffin, which led to his fear of being trapped in the dark. When he grew up, his father left the town with one of his many mistresses and her son. When Kin went to confront his father, the father retorts and says that Kin wasn’t really his biological son, saying that some stranger is his father. His father also said that he glad to have a son who is more skilled than him and that Kin is nothing but a weakling to him. After that, he left by boat. Angry by this, Kin cursed at his father, his mistress and their son, saying that they won’t live to regret this. When he tried to redeem himself by fighting the town’s crimelord, he was defeated by not only the crimelord but also the townspeople. Fed up with the town, he causes chaos to the town by wrecking and burning some stalls. As the crimelord and the townspeople were about to subdue him, one of his henchman told him that the boat that carried Kin’s father exploded and that everyone on that boat died, including his father, his mistress and his son. Kin said that he was happy that happened because they had insulted him and that his prophecy of them not living to regret it had come true. He also declares that he won’t go by his given name. He will only go by the nickname Gan Yan-Kin (Bully Kin). He decided that to get through life, he must treat others really badly as they have treated him.

Tsui is happy to have met the upright and honorable Wong Fei-Hung (Dominic Lam). Interested in stirring up trouble, Kin tries to recruit more students for his kung-fu school by portraying himself as the hero who has defeated one of the Ten Tigers of Guangdong Wong Kei-Ying. For the sake of fairness, Hung is resolved to have a contest with Kin. Unfortunately, Kin manages to make Hung give in with the help of the ancestral tablet of his late father. Thinking that he is a hopeless coward, Tsui decides to break off her engagement to Hung. Kin quickly grabs the chance and begins to woo Tsui. Tsui agrees to transfer her house to Kin after much persuasion from him. Kin shows his true colors as soon as he has secured the property. Tsui is left homeless and has to put up at Po Chi Lam, the martial arts club/medicine shop set up by Hung. Kin has lost his power and soon becomes an object of contempt and hatred. With nowhere else to go, he decides to turn to Hung and asks to be his apprentice. Hung has tried his best to bring out the human side of Kin, for which he has received a lot of criticism from others. Despite Hung’s support, Kin does not repent and behaves even worse than before, leaving Po Chi Lam in a state of total chaos…

Kin’s plan was unveiled when Wong Fei Hung tried to win the 3rd lion dancing competition, where Wong Fei Hung realized he had drank the soup with five stone powder (a form of ancient narcotic) added by Kin. Kin offered the choice of soup or lose the competition. Wong Fei Hung won the contest without the soup, but Wong did not tell others about the incident. Disillusioned by Wong’s unusual integrity, Kin decided to live up to Wong Fei Hung’s reputation.

After the arrests of gang leader Chiu Man Ting and officer Fong Tin Yuen, Wong Fei Hung began to lose his vision as a result of the drugs. Wong Fei Hung appointed Kin to run Po Chi Lam, despite objections by others. Despite Kin’s attempts to help his fellow fighters, they ended up making things worse. Former associate Kam Chin-Pao mistaken believed Kin became Po Chi Lam leader was a plan to take over the street as gang leader, so Kam Chin-Pao started started a gang of his own…
